I'm not sure if we have any Tumblr refugees around, but since DW's a bit more active of late, I wanted to say hi to anyone who might be reading, and confirm that we aten't (necessarily) dead. The community's been quiet for a while, partly because Dreamwidth is quiet and partly because there hasn't been much Fatal Frame-related news to discuss for the last few years, but I'm still floating around, and new members and posts are still welcome and appreciated!
Whether you're a new member or an old one, I'd love to hear from people in the comments; maybe say a little about how you got into Fatal Frame, or share a link to your favourite art/fic for the series, or just anything you want.

Date: 2018-12-14 05:31 pm (UTC)Hi, all! I'm Nico. Fatal Frame fan for about six years or so. My husband has the original game on PS2, but he could never get in to it because he found it too scary. Being a horror-game junkie, I gave it a shot and enjoyed it despite the sometimes unfair difficulty. Went on to play the second, third and fifth games. It was love at first tragically haunted manor. I usually play with our roommate, who also has a special affinity for the series. I really dig the themes of female empowerment* (so many badass ladies) and creeping horror, not to mention the stellar music composition. Yes. (Also, I will never stop shipping Rei/Miku and I'm pretty sure Yuri is both a name, and a preference)
Also! Yuri as an assist trophy in Smash Ultimate! I can't be the only one excited by that.
*there's definitely some controversy over the female exploitation elements, especially when it comes to the extra costumes in FF5, but that's a discussion for another time.

Date: 2018-12-24 11:36 am (UTC)i actually subscribed to this comm years ago under a different account. just now i went poking around the interests search and discovered, hey, an update one week ago! i wasn't expecting that.
i got into fatal frame through livejournal roleplay. i had friends who played characters from the games--mayu, kei, and choushiro primarily--and i was intrigued enough to give the series a shot. i've loved the franchise ever since, and fatal frame 1 holds a special place in my heart as the first horror game i ever played.
i've played 1-4 all the way through and i've got a save file at the very beginning of 5 that i need to get back to. (i've mostly been focusing on handheld games these days because they're way more convenient for me.) i want to play deep crimson butterfly very, very badly, but the region lock won't let me.
(unless somebody knows how to bypass the region lock? the fatal frame 4 patch proves it's possible... if anybody can tell me how to get the european version of the remake working on a north american wii, i'll give you my firstborn, LMAO.)
my favorite fatal frame game is probably 3, but i find the final chunk of the game to be super difficult, so the one i've played through the most is 1. i love them all, though, and i feel like i'm always realizing something new and wonderful to appreciate about them every time i so much as start talking about them. can't say that for every game franchise, you know?
