How can she still be alive...? After so long in that state...

I'm not sure if we have any Tumblr refugees around, but since DW's a bit more active of late, I wanted to say hi to anyone who might be reading, and confirm that we aten't (necessarily) dead. The community's been quiet for a while, partly because Dreamwidth is quiet and partly because there hasn't been much Fatal Frame-related news to discuss for the last few years, but I'm still floating around, and new members and posts are still welcome and appreciated!

Whether you're a new member or an old one, I'd love to hear from people in the comments; maybe say a little about how you got into Fatal Frame, or share a link to your favourite art/fic for the series, or just anything you want.

Kuro Karatsu and Keiko Makino of Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service are making an appearance in the new Fatal Frame movie.

　この度、大塚英志原作の大人気コミック「黒鷺死体宅配便」と本作『劇場版　零～ゼロ～』とのコラボが実現し、漫画のメインキャラクターであるスキンヘッドの“イタコ”（死者の声が聞こえる）・唐津と “エンバーミング”（死体処理）のプロ・槙野のコンビが、「黒鷺宅配便」の一員として劇中に登場していることが明らかとなりました！
　今回のコラボは、安里監督がコミック「黒鷺死体宅配便」の大ファンだったということもあり実現した企画。風貌や仕草、着ている制服はコミックのものを出来るだけ反映、宅配便の車は近いものを何とか探し、1950年代初期のビンテージカーを使用するなどのこだわりが詰まっています。謎を探っていく過程で重要な役割を果たす2人がどんな活躍をみせるのか、目が離せません！
　本日8/4発売のヤングエース9月号には、作画を手がける山崎峰水先生による撮影現場レポートと唐津を演じた渡辺裕也さん、槙野を演じた、柳生みゆさんのインタビューが掲載されておりますので、こちらにも是非ご注目ください！

I knew Ohtsuka was writing the novel/did write the novel, but still! KCDS and Fatal Frame. That should be interesting. Apparently there's an interview with the actors in the 8/4 Shonen Ace magazine.

Wonder if it's going to be canon with KCDS? Probably not, rights issues, but that could be interesting.

On replaying via PSN

Quick general notes: There's a few texture pops (most notable in small spaces like the Moon Shrine), and I did get one audio glitch, where Broken Neck's music kept playing all the way through the Demon Mouth after I ran away from her.

Specific new-to-me thing: Decided, halfway through Calamity, to bop back through the Manor via the Anteroom and pick up Ogata and Blinded's photos. Longhair Woman attacked me in the Fireplace room (she spent half the battle apparently stuck in the floor of the upper half of the room). On a couple of tries, Wandering Monk either showed up with her or when I reentered the Fireplace Room. The last try, he didn't appear until I went to the Fishtank Room, where instead of Longhair Woman I got Floating Face and Wandering Monk, and the monk spent most of the battle floating around the rafters (which made him a lot easier to beat, actually).

Anyone else have this happen?

New game announced for 3DS + BCL Christmas fanworks exchange

This is a little bit late, but in case anyone hasn't seen it, Nintendo and Tecmo-Koei have announced a Fatal Frame spinoff for the 3DS! The title is Spirit Camera: The Haunted Notebook. It has a website here, with a trailer and some pictures, and it's going to use the 3DS's AR functions.

And conversely, this may be a little early, but for anyone who might be interested, Beyond the Camera's Lens is going to run a Christmas fanworks exchange of sorts. The format will be based on

fandom_stocking, and it'll be very low-pressure; you don't have to be creative yourself to sign up for gifts! All you need is an account at the BCL forums. Once you're logged in, look for the "BCL Secret Santa" forum at the bottom of the page. I hope to see you there!

I meant to post about this earlier, but better late than never! Recently Emi from Beyond the Camera's Lens asked Makoto Shibata on Twitter which ending of FF3 was the true one, and he answered!

FF3 Official Guide Book scans

I just realised I'd shared these at Beyond the Camera's Lens but not here, which was not very clever of me! For those who weren't aware, the Zero Shisei no Koe Complete Official Capture Book has supplementary material in the form of letters that Kaname wrote to Reika after he left the village, and Yuu's notes about the Manor of Sleep.

I thought they might be of more use to people who can read Japanese, so I scanned and uploaded them here! A couple of the letters are missing - my session on the scanner was about to end - but next time I go to the library I'll make sure to get them and update the link.

I also managed to find someone who was willing to attempt a translation of three of the letters, which was awesome! These translations are by

franzeska on Livejournal (with a few corrections in the first letter by others who replied to the thread); credit and much gratitude to her.

So, um, it hasn't escaped my notice that after over a year, I'm still the only person to have posted in this community. D: I think that's a shame. I'd love to get a bit more activity going, both for the fandom and Dreamwidth. Fatal Frame might not be the most active fandom out there, but it's not dead, either!

How would you all feel about some sort of weekly challenge or prompt for fanworks, perhaps? A themed discussion post every so often? Maybe a periodic contest to win Dreamwidth tokens? Would you try to take part in something like that, and if not, would you still be interested in what the other participants come up with? Any other ideas to make this comm a bit more lively?

FFIV FST: Whatever We Lose

Quite randomly, I decided to put together a fan soundtrack for Fatal Frame IV, focusing on the island, the rituals and the previous generation rather than Ruka, Madoka and Misaki. I've never done an FST before, but I thought it might be relevant to your interests. No cover art, I'm afraid; my graphics skills do not exist, so I'm sticking to the music.

Be warned: there are spoilers for Fatal Frame IV in the descriptions. Enter at your own risk!
